Hi All,
My parents have flight from Toronto to Bombay with a refueling stop in LHR for 3 hour - 8:30am to 11:10am.
The refueling stop is confusing.

  1. Do they need transit visa? I think they don't since they have Canada Visa.
  2. Would they just need to pass through security in LHR refueling stop? The ticket says there is an overnight stop in LHR but I confirmed with AC customer care twice and there is no overnight stay. Did anyone take this flight path before? If so, Pls share experience.

Comments:

Monish Navani: I’ve travelled on this route before and stopped in LHR for a refuelling stop
1) they should not need a transit visa
2) yes they will be screened by security once again at LHR but will board the exact same flight again

Tejraj Shah: Yes I have. No they do not need a transit visa as long as they have a valid Canadian Visa. Yes the refueling stop is basically some downtime for the plane to get refueled, cleaned and get new supplies. In London there will be countless Air Canada employees guiding you towards the right gate just follow the signs that's all!

Nisha Shetty: No transit visa
Security check done again. Security check is much more strict and slow and they are super insensitive in my 2 experiences at same airport. So better to immediately go for security screening, avoid all liquids if possible cause they will make you bag all 100mls into a pouch they provide and not your own.If they have medicines etc tell them to take that pouch, someone will be distributing it. Dont take water from the flight as will have to throw that.
I have seen no signs when exiting but once you reach the right gate there are people from AC holding placards and announcing. Better to follow where majority crowd is heading(as some will be for London only) and looking at the sign boards for the gate and keep asking someone - most are Indians only on that flight so its easy to communicate and will find someone who will help easily.

Muawia Qasim: No need for transit visa

Jayanth Gurijala: Thanks guys! Really helps to know exactly what to expect especially when parents are traveling !! Thanks again!
